Abstract

Professional development is often bolstered through intentional actions such as networking (Harris, 2018), education, and self-development. Utilizing these tactics can help individuals move through different professional opportunities, whether conventional or unconventional (Ibarra, 2004), and throughout neutral zones (Nastase, 2017). This model outlines the path of career development, indicating career success is not solely defined by obtaining extrinsic rewards such as financial compensation, but rather intrinsic rewards are the ultimate measure of success (Ryan, 2000). Regardless of the path that one takes in their career, utilizing career management tactics to obtain ikigai, a Japanese term exemplifying one?s sense of purpose (Mitsuashi, 2017), allows for a meaning professional life.
