Abstract

In 2020, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) implemented a new set of core graduation competencies for graduates from all its programs. This new set included Information Literacy and Community Engagement, Social Justice, and Equity. The OHSU Core Graduation Competencies define Information Literacy as the ability to "Recognize the power of information in educating, influencing, and understanding the world, while seeking and amplifying missing perspectives. With this lens, locate, critically evaluate, and effectively use information to participate in decision-making, quality improvement, and broader scholarly discourse." The Community Engagement, Social Justice, and Equity competency is defined as the ability to "Apply principles of social justice, equity, and/or anti-racism through community-engaged practice, service, or scholarship."
